With the help of our members, advocates and partner organizations, NC Go has led the way on positively impacting transportation funding policy in North Carolina since our start in 2001.
Fought Motor Fuels Tax (MFT) Caps: We successfully stopped numerous attempts to cap the MFT - our state’s largest source of transportation revenue. Instead we promoted transitioning to a Variable Tax adjusted for population growth and the Consumer Price Index.
Ending the Transfer: We helped end the annual transfer of transportation revenue to the General Fund.
Tolling in NC: We advocated for authorization of tolling and the start of Turnpike Authority Projects.
STI: We worked to get politics out of project selection, through the adoption of STI (Data-based prioritization/decisions) for transportation funding.
Blue Ribbon Committee: We were instrumental in the creation of the Blue Ribbon “21st Century Transportation Committee” – and featured the committee’s chair at events around the state to help promote the committee’s work.
Multimodal Fund: We led efforts to pass the Multimodal Fund to help relieve congestion and enhance mobility across the State.
Build NC Bond: We were instrumental in passage of the Build NC Bond, a financing tool that helps ensure NCDOT can continue strong delivery of critical road projects at the regional and division tiers.
Local Options: We fought to pass the Congestion Relief and Intermodal Transportation 21st Century Fund - which authorized a ¼ & ½ cent local option sale tax, to be used for transit.
Short-Term Lease: We successfully worked to get proceeds from Short-Term automobile leases moved from the General Fund back to Transportation.
Sales Tax Transfer: Successfully fought for a phased transfer of sales tax dollars to meet transportation needs – projected to exceed $710M/year in 2025.
